Bethlehem – Prime Minister Salam Fayyad spoke with Bethlehem Governor Salah Tamari on Wednesday assuring him that the water crisis would be alleviated. The Water Authority will be financed in order to contribute to solving the water crisis in the Bethlehem Governorate.

Fayyad issued his promises this morning in the wake of the demonstration held in Aida Refugee Camp yesterday afternoon and the violent response by Palestinian security which resulted in several injuries, including a gunshot wound.

Aida Refugee Camp in northern Bethlehem has not had running water in over a month.

Bethlehem’s Water Authority is accepting 150,000 USD toward ameliorating the severe shortage. The amount was based on Water Authority estimates and will be used for pumps and linking systems.

Governor Tamari met with the director of the local Water Authority to discuss distribution and better service with what is available considering the region-wide crisis.

Prominent figures and camp residents immediately demanded an investigation into the response to the demonstration and for action to lessen the crisis.
